In addition to wall decoration, stencils are also used for decorating furniture. After completing the work of decorating the walls, you can proceed to coloring the furniture in the same style, while it is possible to repaint both cabinet furniture and upholstered furniture.

Stencil selection

Drawings and stencils for walls are a matter of taste, there are still some general recommendations to help make the most successful choice. Stencils for wall decor can be different: you can use ready-made stencils by buying them in a store, or draw them yourself, then you will have unique stencils for a wall in a single copy.

Laconicism looks more spectacular

There are a number of recommendations that you should keep in mind when choosing stencils for walls:

  1. Too small sizes of the picture from a distance will resemble spots, in addition, to apply such a picture without flaws is quite difficult.
  2. In one room, one should not combine several different types of ornaments, for example, geometric ornaments and drawings with flowers.
  3. Be sure to consider the purpose of the room when choosing a picture.

If you do not want to choose ready-made stencils for wall decor in the store and are going to make your own templates, then the following instructions will be useful to you:

  1. Select the pattern you want and print it. If its dimensions are too large, print by breaking the decor stencil into pieces on several sheets.
  2. Then transfer the drawing to cardboard or thin plastic using a felt-tip pen. Cut out the pattern.
  3. When sticking a sketch on the wall, use the level to avoid errors by determining the position of the picture. Glue the stencil for decor with aerosol glue, if your templates are too large and heavy, or you just don’t have glue on hand, you can use masking tape.

Painting a wall through a stencil

For work you may need:

  • level;
  • glue;
  • the stencil itself;
  • brush;
  • roller;
  • paint;
  • sponge.

The process of drawing a picture through stencils for painting walls is simple. First prepare the surface, clean it from dirt and dust, wash if necessary. Mark the surface using the level, mark the extreme points of the stencil with a pencil and fix it evenly (Fig. 2).

When choosing a color, apply a few test drawings of different shades, so you can better determine which shade will better reflect your idea. Do not fuss, quality does not endure rush. It is better to choose paint based on acrylic, its advantages are that it dries quickly and lies well on any surface. You can apply the paint with a brush or roller, so that there are no smudges, apply the paint a little.

Outlining stencils for wall decor, hold the brush perpendicular to the wall, apply paint by the method of filling, so that there will not be any extra fibers on the surface. If using a sponge, make the first prints on a separate sheet to remove excess paint.

The roller is best used for products with large ornaments. If you intend to use spray paint, keep the can at a distance of 30 cm from the wall. The drawing is painted over in several stages, if you need to clearly distinguish the borders of the drawing, draw them with a thin brush.

You can also make a volumetric pattern by creating a texture on the wall using putty. To create a three-dimensional drawing, use an acrylic putty. To create a three-dimensional pattern, a sufficient putty thickness is 1-3 mm. When the putty is dry, sand it with fine-grained emery paper and start painting.

The choice of wallpaper for painting

There are three types of wallpaper intended for painting: paper wallpapers, non-woven and fiberglass wallpapers, each of these varieties is different in price and has its advantages and disadvantages.

Paper have the following varieties:

  • simplex - cheap single-layer wallpapers, short-lived;
  • duplex - two-layer wallpaper, they also include coarse-fiber trellis, which includes wood shavings, which ultimately gives the wallpaper a resemblance to burlap.

Non-woven wallpaper - the advantage is good vapor and air permeability, which is favorable for the home. Cullets - this type of wallpaper is not afraid of fungi, but such wallpapers are quite expensive.

When choosing stencils for wallpaper, consider the properties of drawings to change the size and perception of the room:

  1. The correct geometric pattern gives the effect of a monotonous wall, which is good for the office, in some cases suitable for living rooms.
  2. Chaotic drawing - may look untidy.
  3. A soft pattern comes out if the texture is small and seamless.
  4. "Gunny" - a pattern that will appeal to the supporters of simplicity.
  5. "Herringbone" - choosing this pattern, keep in mind that it will visually reduce the size of the room.

Painting wallpaper and furniture

Before diluting all the paint, do a color test on a separate piece of wallpaper to make sure the shade is correct.

The walls are painted with a spray gun or a roller (preferably velor). Painting from a spray gun is the best option. Use the brush only for hard to reach places.

Can I paint wallpapers that are not intended for painting? Yes, you can paint them, and, perhaps, the result you get will look beautiful, but experts say that this option of painting will remain beautiful for a very short time, after which you will have to make repairs.

There are not only stencils for wall decor, but also for painting furniture. The most ordinary unpretentious furniture takes on a unique look, you just need to choose the right pattern, suitable for the style of the interior. The drawing can even be applied to upholstered furniture. To apply the picture using a stencil for furniture decor, use a sponge and a special paint for painting on fabric.
